SD Bay 8/25

Launched out of SI around 6:30 and headed to the bait receiver. The dines were maybe the biggest I have ever seen. Bought the yak scoop, headed toward north island and started drifting a dine on the bottom. There was a decent in coming tide and I was feeling a bit optimistic. Ended up drifting all the way to almost the old sea plane ramps. Now the frustrating side. Lizard fish got on EVERY thing I put in in the water. They came up latched on to the tails of the big dines and ate every plastic I threw. Grubs, swim bait, even texas rigged senkos, it didn't matter. They were actually up in the water column so thick the plastics couldn't even make it to the bottom. Every hooked fish had followers. Worst I've ever seen them. Did you guys a favor and didn't take any pictures. Mike

You should have put them on a hook for bait.

I couldn't get out had to give tennis lessons.

Didn't catch anything except for lizards?

shelter island

I went out yesterday as well, got sort of a late start and ended up meeting another bwe member at the launch. We got some bait and headed towards the point. Other than the 20" sandy he pulled up it was a slow and windy day. In the water from 830 til about 5 and then the paddle in took about an hour.

Mike, we hate lizardfish, too, that's too bad they were such a problem, probably diminishing your chances of catching a decent fish. They can be problematic in certain areas of LJ, and especially around Scripps pier, when we used to be able to fish there for anything except bait. Better luck next time.

i used to RARELY catch Lizards in SDB around 10+ years ago.

still not too bad around Tidelands area now days.

but past 5 years or so, they have gotten thick, especially all around the Shelter Island area. past 2 years, they are getting horribly populated.

some days, i struggle to catch more bass than lizards.
