What ram tube, the one on the ball mount, or the one that locks in?

Yeah, I would never attach a rod leash to a rod holder. I've broken those Yak track inserts off of the Scotty Mounts. Luckily I caught the mount with a quick dive into the water. LOL.
I've never been happy with Scotty or Ram rod holders.
Now I'm using the Railblaza mounts with the new AI. When they bring out the new rod holder, game over. But I still would never trust them 100%, always a rod leash attached to the kayak.
Sooner or later you can assume your going to end up tipping over in the drink and anything that doesn't attach with a leash or float will be lost. Just a matter of time, when your most vulnerable. I never assume anymore.

Sorry to hear of your expensive mistake, I'm sure it will never happen again.

That sucks man was it a tube or just the rod holder. I have an extra ram rod holder with no mount if you want you can have it.

thats okay. I don't need another ram holder. Oceanside Dive & Kayak (Rik) got one on order for me.

I have never had any of my scotty products fail me...at least not yet...they make good stuff. Ram makes excellent products as well, but the rod holders....are just not heavy duty enough in my opinion. Sorry you lost a rod...hope you got the gps #s.

true ram lasted for almost two years now. Yeah that rod really meant a lot to me for conventional reel from my wife's uncle when I came back from Afgan. But hey I learned a lot from this lost as well.

Check out Cisco Fishing systems http://www.ciscofishingsystemsltd.co...od-holder-5126

the cradle mount is pretty sweet as well. All aluminum and Stainless construction, torque band is similar to the ones on bike seat posts, so if it can hold over 200 pounds of direct pressure, I'm sure these will last a lifetime.....they are not cheap, but 100% quality.
