the power of the YOYO
Today my buddy and I picked a spot that seemed fishy. i brought a rod to catch bait and troll crank baits on the way out plus one set up with a dropper and 40lb floro just like i would for yellows and also a light yo yo rig with 50lb braid and 20lb floro. used a sumo Jr in scrambled egg. the locals out there gave me a few looks and one just couldn't understand why i was reeling that jig up and down all morning. well here's part of the reason. baby amber jack. i got another just a tad bigger. african pompano. I also managed a 12-15lb red snapper but my buddy was busy at the time so i didn't get a pic. he is making video though, so that should be up tomorrow. also lost a couple fish. of course they all felt wayyy bigger than the ones i landed. YoYo, the next big thing in the gulf.

yeah, it had me bowed up for about 2 mins and i hooked it 30ft down. great initial fighter just no stamina. would be fun on a 10lb rig, but there's so many sharks and larger fish, i'd never get it in. those little AJ fight well too.

That east coast fishing gets kinda strange when you're used to so cal.
They love the spinning reels and seam facinated on having as much Terminal tackle as possible. Beads, chains, swivles, leaders, little shiney Spinny gizmos, if you can think of it they'll tie it on. Well done with the west coast style back there. Mike |
