Hueneme canyon is a place I've wanted to fish for a while. I plan on heading up that way at least a couple times this season. Where are you launching from in the harbor? I've checked out a beach just south of the harbor for a surf launch but would prefer a harbor launch if available.

great! Looks like myself, ben, possibly hugo and yourself are going... I think ben wanted to launch at 2 or 3.. Wonder if we should pick up live bait and split it for halibut..
just learned that someone I met is going out from leo carillo or by neptun net around 6am... Anyone else interested in a morning bite? I will try going out to both places if my arms and pride are not to badly damaged..lol Last edited by momo fish; 04-27-2013 at 11:09 AM. |

I'm launching for the canyon at 7 am. Will stay all day out as weather permits.

Channel Islands Harbor launch
Best launch at the Channel Islands harbor would be the Kiddie Pool park at the end of S. Victoria Ave. Just south of the Coast Gaurd office. Good luck to all.

Didn't happen. Just a bad day. The strap to my kayak cart broke twice while taking it to the truck. Ctug...don't get it. Jimmyrig it...get to the beach and the cart breaks again. I'm on sand and less then 20' from the water so I just pull it...but what's in my way? A frickin banana. Are you serious?! Had to pick the banana up to get to the water...right in the way. Dealing with the cart set me back almost 2 hours, sigh. Should've went home right then. Paddle out, kinda rough, get past the harbor but before the breakwall....got big. I kept going about 300 yards past the breakwall and the front of the kayak came out of the wave and when I came down the face of the next wave was over eye level with me....and that's when I turned around. A sailboat had gone out before me and I could see it's mast in the distance and it was going from 10 to 2. Get back inside and worked the breakwall good and didn't get a thing. Oh well, no sunburn, no yard sale and still have all 10 fingers and toes. Bad day of kayaking is better than sitting in front of the tv. I'll be back.
