WFO bassin san pedro.

its been over a month since i fished the ocean at night. but my friend gave me a call and wanted to try to scratch for some sculpin. so we went on his 13' whaler and tried a very close spot inside of the harbor (its near the san pedro bait barge ). got to the spot at about 9pm. used dropper loop squid. hooked 3 big fish that came off. friend hooked 1 fish.. 13" calico.

so i say... "if these are calicos.. i'm tying on a hammer!!!". he's never used one before so he asked if i could so him. i just tied a 1/2oz warbait head onto 40# spectra. 4" redrum hammer... slather pro cure on it (i ran out of the butter). and told him to cast and let it fall. also told him that once it hit the bottom. just slowly bounce it because fish strike on the fall.

pretty much.. fished 9-11pm. all were C&R.

25+ calicos up to 17" (avg 14")
20+ sandies up to 17" (avg 13")
4 sculpin 12"+ (big pigs)
1 rubberlip perch 12"
2 brown rockfish 13"
1 vermillion rockfish 13"
1 grass rockfish 12"
early released about 60 fish.

overall. his mind is blown away at how crazy big hammers work and my mind was blown away at how insane the winter bass bite is. our thumbs were bleeding. it was like a wfo summer bass bite.

only took 1 pic of the biggest calico of the night. will post it up soon.

Nice work vince good to see your still wetting a line. I am saving up for either an aluminum or inflatable dinghy. A little more mobile than a kayak
