Stollen Hoopnet and stopping it

Hi everyone
Last night I had one of my Promar Ambush hoop nets stollen in Ventura Harbor. How do you guys in Kayaks stop a skif coming up and grab them up? There was two of us and it was are seconed net that was dropped, that was taken. But we were just too far a way to catch them. Motor boat vs Kayaks
Talked to some guys at the lunch. They said two nights before there was a fist fight on the docks over stollen gear. I guss the guy caught the guy trying to drive away with his stuff.

Saba

P.s. No Bugs,, skuned

I would try to report it right away on 16 as Jorge said. Try to get as much info from the boat as well make, model, registration. Whatever you can see. Just be careful out there at night. I wouldn't try casting into them or anything. Besides the dangers of not knowing there reaction, it doesn't help your claim if you can actually get Port Police or DFG out there.

I checked DFG's site and all they post is phone numbers, Harbor Police say they can be hailed on Ch 16. Someone stealing gear is a crime that could escalate so it would constitute an emergency. Just let them know immediately that no persons or vessels were in immediate danger. Thing is, does anybody mark their hoop nets with some kind of one off identification if the Police were there to help?

You will get faster results calling harbor police by cell phone, but you should also make calls on 16 as well. They respond pretty fast. Remember you're on a Kayak at night and these boaters will try anything to keep from being caught. If they are willing to take the hoop nets, what else do you think they are willing to do?

Sucks! last week was divers stealing from the hoops. this week its boaters stealing the whole set up. What a deal... Imagine hooking your iron on their watercraft... what a ride it would be...
what if we anchor up next to our hoops, would it spook the roaches? Just wondering.

That's exactly what I do... Anchor right in the middle of your traps and add a float to your anchor line with a clip or just tie up to it while your hoops are soaking. Never had a problem with scaring the bugs but may attract seals and other fisherman. But you can handle the seals with a sling shot and bait tubes.

Thanks For all your replys. kantstudien (M1 GRAND) Good one

You will get a kick out of this you guys!!!! 800 feet from where my hoopnet was set and stollen, is Ventura's DFG office, National Park Service, and Harbor Patrol LOL. When you call the local DFG they forward the call to Santa Barbara office. National park guys boats were all gone (out at Chanel Islands). Some Wardens went with the Harbor Patrol up north on a call. Coast Gaurd is ten miles away. So I was out of luck.

oh where was my 1911 (45.cal acp)
