they were all fishing halibut for the tourney last weekend out of oside... every river mouth in north county was stacked with boats, and yes it gets good off cardiff

I yak off Cardiff once every couple of weeks. Its not LJ but for those of us that live close, its fun and the fishing can be good.

I saw them too - it looked like they were fishing off the outflow pipe. Good bassin, halibut and the occasional WSB or YT.

Yeah, I saw a couple of guys that were all rigged up to fish with their kayaks that never made it past the beach break. They dumped 2 or 3 times before they turned around and packed it in.

There is some pretty good fishing in that general area, if you know where and when to look. You have to go through the surf most of the time, so that thins out the crowd.
True to the old school North County tradition, the locals in the know don't say much about it. It ruins the "thrill of discovery".
