Dana Point 3-27
We launched at grey light and fished the outside of the jetty for 1/2 hour then paddled out to the pipe. The wind was blowing of shore in the double digits had to break out the 3/4 and 1oz heads. Caught the fish on Uni Buttered coated Big Hammers Pearl Swim Baits and the Fluke with the War Bait heads. Red colors were the best my biggest fish came on a Pearl 3" red bait on a 3/8 oz head after the wind died took a pic but only got my waders (bummer). Also got 2 nice calicos on the War bait head head with a blade. We both caught 10 bass of the water by 12.

Here's my take on the morning...
Landwhale and I hit the pipe this morning. Launched from the ramp at about 6:00 back about 12:00. There was a cold offshore blowing and the water was cold too. Fished the end of the jetty until there was enough light to paddle out to the pipe (neither of us had a headlamp). I was fishing Steve's P15 and was very happy with it. It is a wet ride, but paddles fast and tracks really well. Also, it was my first time using a color FF. Interesting to use, but at least I know now I don't need a color FF. Heck, I'm color blind anyways. I missed my GPS too which led to a few times where I had to hunt for the Pipe. The offshore was pretty strong and also shifted directions. One drift you'd go uphill and out, the next drift might be out and down. Really had to pay attention to landmarks to figure out which way you went. One time Steve and I got way off the pipe and had to paddle for while, until I remembered to look at the shore. So, we did a lot of paddling until 9:00 when the wind died. Around 10:30 it picked up a little out of the NW, but it was only a breeze. Until the wind died it was heavy heads to hit bottom. I was using a 1oz head with a 4" Flurry and that was enough to get to the bottom. Only hung up bad once and ended up bending the hook to get it free. Nice to know it was a good knot. In fact I only lost one head today, some kind of record I think. Once the wind died I switched to a 3" Flurry on a 3/8oz head. With the 4" I had 4 calicoes. The 3" got me 4 more including my biggest. We figured it went about 5lbs. The only 2 Flurry colors that got bit were Redfish and Sea Food. I also got one sand bass which took a 6" MC dropshot bait in some kind of green/clear belly. Only 10 bass for each of us. But, I had figured with it being post-front and a drop in water temp that we'd be lucky with 5. Glad too get out and hang with my friend too. Thanks Steve for the use of your yak and the good seat (this new seat by Feel Free is really nice). The picture is blurry and I didn't hold the fish straight, but this is the big one. Steve had a sand bass close to the same size.

Nice! I got a bunch of those new Warheads with the blades too. They should kill this summer.

Have no fear, he caught a couple on the flukes. Those War Blades do look good though. I need to pick up a few myself.

I was impressed by the Warbait Head with the blade at the show and picked up 2. Yesterday seem good conditions to give them a try the strikes are harder than with a bait and both fish were over 1 1/2 lbs. Fished them on braid with a 17lb floro leader.
I DID USE the flukes when the wind calmed down 3 fish and lost 2 heads and baits to the bottom 10lb couldn't stop Make sure you bring the Uni Butter

You can save that $50 worth of flukes for later or sell some to Team Sewer Fishing. Leave it to Mr. Green to throw a wrench into a perfectly good plan. |

Team sewer fish only uses live bait due the fact that everything else disintegrates when it hits the water up there
