Crystal Cove 3/5
Paddled out from the dock @ moms beach, bait every where! sardines and small macs, loaded up in 10-15 min. fished a bait for a short time (nothing). So I paddled out the jetty & south to crystal cove got nailed on the drop of the first bait but pulled it out of its mouth thinking it was the seal that was circling me only to teeth marks of the good kind. dropped another small mac down and whammo! ended up with 5 legal sand bass and one calico (6.5 lbs) my PB for the calico. Great day on the water, Glassy most of the morning. |

Yeah starting at the fishing dock @ moms beach which is across the harbor from the coast guard station, and then all th way out to the bouy. I usually fish week days on my own if any one wants to join in on the fun. I got this 10 lb lingcod there in Nov.

Another place to fish at...
Started kayak fishing again and will probably make my rounds to the various kayak locations. I'll make sure to introduce myself if I'm ever in the area.

POOR CALI
R.I.P big healthy Pig of a calico bass. May your offspring (if any left) grow to be as big and beautiful as yourself. Please realease the big guys for future generations to come. When I was 16 (ten years ago) bass this size were common all throughout our coast. Due to overfishing, and poaching, (I've seen it from pier j in LB all the way down to San onofre) Bass like this are now a PRIZE, rather than a common occurrence. To each his own.

I release all my calicos. I realize that some people eat them, but as the above poster mentioned, please try and release the larger models. Keep all of the 2-3lbers ya want.
