Just my thoughts, but pretty sure the chains and cables do no fall under warranty as this refers to manufacturers defects. A cable or chain require proper maintenance and can be overtightened.
I will be checking with Hobie's warranty dept for the definitive answer.

Thanks Iceman. I'm hoping it does. It snapped off right where the cable comes out of the sleeve (near the end). Probably the weakest spot on this cable setup. It's never been adjusted/over-tightened but always cleaned and lubed.

The cables are not usually covered...but they're only like $20 and easy to replace.
I know it kinda sucks having to pay replace something after you just put down a ton of cash for it, but let me re-assure you that Hobie has, by far, the best warrenty/customer service in the business. And also if you havnt' already, check out: http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/ and scroll down to the kayak fishing area...tons of good info there on drive care and adjustment, new heavier duty parts available, and lube tests/selection....along with all the other public forum BS. A very cool site!! |

I bought my hobie this past spring used. 2010 outback.
I broke one of the cradles (the spring to it) that my drive sits in about a month ago. I had to get a whole new part. they gave me a good discount. I dont think it would of been under warranty. Then I brought in just this week my center hatch, which was unuseable. It was warped and not closing or opening. They were pretty surpised how much wear I had put to it. They gave me a hatch off another kayak free off charge. Fastlane is great, I believe they will work with you regardless if you are 1st owner. I dont think the cables would be under warranty. I bring in my drive every so often so they can tune it up for me. I think they are easy to break if you are not maintaining them. |

The answer from Hobie is although not really a warranty issue, they do feel that even with heavy use there is no reason you should have a cable snap within the first year and would be willing to replace it.
