As far as teeth go, I get scared with bonies and 'cudas....

I may mess around with a thresher if it's the right size and that will only be once in a lifetime for me.... Mako's scare the "S" outta me...

Sammons you haven't caught many mako's then, because more than 80% of them DON'T jump...most of them let you walk em right to the boat...

Didn't say I had, maybe 10, most if not all jumped at some point during the fight.

Y'all are nuts!
Why would you think you could handle any 200 + lb fish from a yak?
Add to that a predictably unpredictable and agressive fish...
Glad to hear noone got hurt.
Thanks for the pix and story though.
I have to admit, very cool post. Just nuts.

Aw Zed....hey, wait a minute...

For the record, I have caught Makos before, back in my sailing days.
We would motor out at midnight, make it to the shipping lanes by sun up, set a low sail, and troll Rapalas for them.
Once gaffed, we'd tail rope 'em and tie them off to the rail, and pour cheap booze down their body, it would hit their gills and knock them out for a couple minutes, long enough for us to gut them and bleed 'em.
Then we'd let them hang off the rail for about a half hour til they 'calmed' down.

In all the fights we've had (most averaged 6-8'), like Ryan said, they would come straight to the boat. Helped we were using heavy line, but the real fun began when we sunk the gaff in.

And I always carry a gaff, rope, and a knife on the yak. Too bad I was out of Pacificos, or I would've shared a drink with him

No aerial displays, but he sure liked hanging around my yak, the fun part was making sure to get him out from under the yak. And when he'd pull me, only to turn around and come back at me....ah, fun.
