Great Day Fishing Today
Got the invite Wednesday to hit up the bay with LordMatt hunting Halibut. I jumped at that offer and said let's go. Met up at 6 A.M. on the water by 7. Headed over picked up some Dines from the barge and went to some spots. Matt picked up a Short Corvina(No Photo) then I got one of these. We hit up a spot that was producing some great strikes including this one, This Corvina went 6Pounds,13 ounces. This feel slammed the bait like a train and ran like crazy. Matt and I both lost a couple of good sized halibut, but me, well I caused one of Matt's to come unbuttoned at the boat that would have easily been 30" in length. Feeling bad I all I wanted was for him to hook up so I could redeem myself. That chance would come later. Moved to the south part of the bay and got this. 26 1/2" the last time I hooked a legal Halibut was when I was 13, I'm now 39. That's right 26 years since my last legal Halibut. Great day! I caught these a short time later. To this point we were having fun, catching fish, we had 1 fish in the boat that we were targeting, so we headed to 1 last spot to finish the day. After a couple of ugly lizard fish, more bass, and missed fish this came on board This fish went 33" and 12 pounds. Great fish right? we're not done This fish went 32 1/2" back to back. I was able to redeem myself for the missed net fish early in the morning, but had I not Matt would have had 2 Halibut over 30" today. We called it quits after that, we figured we had done well enough and wanted to leave on a high. We had a great day, caught the fish were were targeting, and after 26 years I finally got my legal Halibut. Thanks Matt for the invite, and I hope to hook up with you again.

Thanks guys, the Halis were on the chew yesterday, it could have been because there was a Grunion Run also, but no matter, I was glad they were biting my hook. Now I want to get one of those from my Kayak.

My buddy caught 2 in the area we were in, one was 16" and you see the other. That big one took off like a run away train. Great fight.
