Pyramid lake Striperfest

Saturday was the FNN Striperfest good time tourney. I made it out on the kayak, the winds were managable for the morning but they picked up pretty good around 1030. About noon I had to beach and fish from shore. I waited for what I thought was a lull in the wind to paddle back to the launch and had to fight some pretty hard wind head onwith wind swells crashing over my bow. Had a pretty hard paddle for about an hour and by the time I made it back to the lauch my shoulder was blown out pretty bad and I decided to pop some vicodin left over from my last shoulder surgery and pack up.

I didn't stay for the weigh in but the winner of the event stringer weight was just over 18lbs and the biggest fish was a in the 3#. No pig stripers were caught but still a good day.

I caught 3 schoolies myself all in the 12-15" range (perfect taco size).

I plan on going Striper fishing the last weekend of the month. What kind of lures did you use? Were the fish on the surface or in deep water?

They can be found it seems anywhere in the water column. Anything that rattles, swimbaits, stumpjumpers or try trolling rapalas usually works. If no love on artificials you cant go wrong drifting anchovies,
