4/16 - 4/17 La Jolla

Saturday I fished WSB around the kelp all morning for nada. Didn't see
any fish. Weather was nice, shot some great video of dolphin tearing into
sardine schools. Tons of bait. These sardines were seriously LOSING ....

Framegrab from the video:

Sunday I decided to make a rockfish trip with my neighbor. After reviewing
the marginal and deteriorating conditions at 6:15 am, he said - Let's Roll! : )

The seas got rougher ... the wind got stronger as we headed out past the
kelp. We managed to make the rockfish grounds at 2.5+ miles out in an hour,
but the south wind was steady, and it was bumpy. No problem in the Oasis.

We got some nice sculpin and a couple rockfish but the current was not
moving where we needed it to be for LIMIT style bottom-grabber catching.

Glad we had the tandem Hobie out there though, the boat just handles the
chop pretty well with two of us onboard. Got a few fish and shot some video
of the conditions returning, we took some splashes onboard!

Jumping Sculpin!

Sounds like the same conditions that we had last Sunday, winds was blowing from the south and it didn't stop, lots of chop too. Sculpin are some of the best fish I've ever had, dangerous fish to handle especially on a yak. My wife was never a big fish eater until she tried Sculpin, now she's hooked and ever I come home she'll ask if I caught that fish that she likes.

Awesome Larry
I loved my Oasis for fishing. Not really marketed as a "fishing" yak, but it was super quick, super dry, stable, and more comfortable than most yaks I've been on. A few rod holders, and it was good to go.

Yummy scullies
