Holy wind batman

Hit San Diego bay for 'buts with success. We each scored C&R points, Julie's 'but was a 24 inch fish, Aaron's a 26 inch. Good thing for these fish we have plenty of filets still in the freezer.
Only a couple of other shorts besides those two. And the usual C&R on the spotties. Kept a couple of sandies for tacos.
The weather report had predicted West 10 knots in the afternoon. WRONG! Easily that by 10:30AM. By noon close to 20 knots, when we made the turn at Ballast Point heading to the receiver. It got worse. The paddle from Ballast Point to the bait receiver was the most brutal we've ever experienced. At times, we made zero progress. When we made it past the receiver we tied to the Navy's roped off-limits area for a breather. Naval security came right away. Fortunately, the guy in charge (Dave) was extremely cool. Asked us if we needed water, help, etc. We told him we were taking a breather, but jokingly said we wouldn't mind a tow back to Lawrence St. He said he couldn't take us that far, but 'lo and behold' he went and found some people fishing nearby in a zodiak type craft who would tow us back. Awesome, as we were beat.
Our thanks go out to the Naval Security for his help, plus Steve and his buddy (and kids) for a welcomed tow. Also to Jim? or Rick? on a blue prowler for giving us 2 prime mackeral. We were going to soak 'em near the receiver, but the circumstances didn't allow it to happen.
