Fishing Report Kings Habor 2/21/2011 - Kayak Fishing Adventures on Big Water’s Edge

The bait barge was closed. So i had to paddle back to the pier and i bought some frozen squid so i had to rerig my lines and all i caught were 4 sanddabs and 1 sand bass undersize at 400ft by the artificial reef. It was so deep that it was the first time i ran out of line. As soon as you paddle out of the harbor its like 100 ft then you paddle a bit further and your in 300ft of water, and you are still near the bay not like in Marina Del rey where you paddle for an hour and you are still in 60ft of water.

The pier shop said the bait barge should open in March because there is a new owner who might be taking it over.

Hey Frank, 5 fish not bad. You were fishing Halibut in 400 feet?

Yes, but they were all like 4 to 10 inches I told them to come back when they were older.

So i came back emptyhanded. I also had a bunch of those sucidal green back mackeral that i just threw back because nothing was biting on those.

Yes, thats it. I didn't know that canyon was so close. Has anyone had any sucess fishing that canyon?

yes, thats how they looked. So i will rephrase it from Halibut to Sanddabs.

What is a good size to take Sanddabs home on?

you can take home sand dabs at any size, and i dont believe there is a limit to them, tasty as well. What size hooks were you using lol?

the smaller ones got stuck on my sibiki rig i had a piece of suid on and the other ones were on a 1/0 hook with a piece of squid.

Sanddabs are good eating...next time bring your fish chart : )

22nd Street Landing is known for getting their customers on to sanddabs. They even have trips just targeted for sanddabs....

Am I wrong in thinking that you are only allowed to fish a max depth of 60 fathoms or 360' deep? 

Hey Frank if you gonna be fishing 400 feet deep, I'll let you use my 4/0, spool it with 4 pound line and you are good to go for about 1000 feet.

No friggin sandab stands a chance!

You must have been right in the canyon there. Its less deep if you paddle north or south.
