quick question on the tourney, would a Black Sea Bass be an eligible fish? If a boat out there weighs the fish before release, would it be eligible as biggest fish?

Heads up, the Windansea Surf Club is having their Menehune (kids) surf competition at La Jolla Shores Oct 7 and 8th. The first heat starts at 7:00am so it will impact parking for anyone arriving late for the BWE fishing tournament. I'm going to miss the BWE tournament, I had open heart surgery this past Wednesday, but now I won't miss watching my son surf in the contest. Good luck to everyone, save me a size large t-shirt. Dave

Dave:
(Fishionado) Sorry to hear about your heart surgery? Hope all is well with you now? Glad you can watch your son surf the WSC Menehune Contest this weekend! I will also miss the BWE Tournament to serve as the Menehune event head judge again this year. If you are up to, please feel free to stop by the judges stand and say hello. It would be nice to meet you both. Bonga Perkins and Tommy Asing will arrive tomorrow with the Hawaiian kids, your son may enjoy meeting them. Hope to see you then... Guy |

Guy, I'll visit Saturday, thanks. The heart surgery was 5 coronary bypasses, one completely blocked, all went well and I expect to be surfing and kayak fishing again within a couple of months. It was a big surprise, I'm 45 in great shape and eat well. I've been training for a 640 mile bike ride at the end of October and was riding 200 miles a week with no problem. A couple weeks ago I started feeling tension between my shoulders with my heart rate over 150 bpm. Kayak fishing caused no problem, I was still going a couple times per week. Saw my doctor and then a cardiologist and they couldn't find anything. Went in for an angiogram last Monday and they told me I couldn't leave the hospital without open heart surgery. I kept expecting Ashton Kustcher to bust through the door and say I had been punk'd. All things considered I feel very lucky and just look forward to getting back out there. Life is good!

Thanks guys, I'm glad the surprise wasn't dropping dead of a massive heart attack. I came home from the hospital today and the doc says I should be as strong or stronger within 3 months.
Has anyone else had their sternum sawed open, how long before you kayaked comfortably? Pulled hoops? |
