Damn, that fish made that rod look like a red vine. Not to mention make that little guy work for every inch.

Makes me want to go fishing. Only it looks like the surf isn't coming down as quick as I'd hoped. We'll see...

I bet that we'll have a few of those bruisers swimming in our local waters next year, courtesy of the never ending squid spawn that this year has been.
36 kilos? Whats that, just a hair under 50 lbs?

We have a BWE member that was moving to NZ.

SD Handyman I believe. Does anyone know if he went through with the move ?

I have some friends that travel there every few years and say the place is top notch for fishing a motorcycling.

It's relative...

That's an incredible specimen, no doubt!

But, those fish are a dime a dozen in New Zealand. As hard as it is for us to fathom on the West coast, those fish are like sand on the beach over there. They're everywhere; they catch them in any type of weather, all year long---on just about anything they drop in the water. Apparently, even blind Monkeys can catch seventy pound kings over there---on a regular basis.

Something to keep in mind if (and when) those red and blue rectangles up and down the West coast continue to grow .

Oh yeah, what's really cool about that fishery and the locals: they typically release all the kings in the 100 lb class. I'm guessing they let the fish in this video go, too. After hugging and kissing it for a couple minutes, of course. Good on ya'!

That's a cool video. I love how they can go 0-60 in 1 second. One of the coolest fish in the ocean.
