Fishing Silver Strand State Park

Saturday I'll be meeting the in-laws at Silver Strand State Park in San Diego. I was wondering if I should take my Hobie Outback out through the surf and fish the area? I've only fished the bays so any advice on how far to go out and what to use would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Joe

The Strand

Might be tough getting in and out, but I've seen it done. On Labor Day 2 years ago, I watched one guy fish just outside the surf among zillions of diving birds and smelt jumping everywhere, even in the surf. Later I saw him on the beach with easily a 40 pound WSB. I'm out there fairly often in the summer and that's the only time I've seen a yakker. The surf fishing can be decent, especially south of the entrance and north of the RV camping area. I've spotted some nice corbina coming up on crabs with the rising tide, and there's usually perch to be had. Good luck and post up if you nail a good one.
