Hook Quality

While tying some new halibut trap rigs the other day I noticed a bit of roughness near the eyelet on what was to be the top hook on the trap rig. I had never thought much about hook differences, and always wondered about the extreme variations in pricing on similar style and sized hooks. Beyond that, it was always puzzling why the line would break just above the top hook on occasion, when I knew my knots were good and there were no abrasions on the line. Besides, I catch 90% of my hali’s on the treble/trap hook.
Food for thought and for what it’s worth… BTW, these are Eagle Claw “Lazor Sharp” size 1/0.
