Which fishfinder? Garmin 160c or Humminbird 385

Newbie here and have never used a fishfinder. I can get the Garmin for $70 and the HB 385 for $175-$200. considering the prices and features any recommendations would be appreciated. I already read some posts giving kudos to the 385. Use will be a little offshore, sierras and Big Bear Lake. I plan to mount the transducer in the hull. Being a newbie I don't have the guts to drill a hole in the bottom of my hull.
