Watched Roger pulling and getting pulled. Rogers first really big fish from the kayak. Nice job. Paddled around for awhile, never quite sure exactly where I was due to the fog. Landmarks would fade in and out. The current was pretty strong early and slowed down as the day progressed. Heard some powerboaters screaming like girls, so started throwing the iron. Picked up another 4lb bonito on the iron. Put down the iron stick and throw out a megabait when the fly-lined greenback gets picked up. The fish makes a huge first run up on the surface, and I'm thinking WSB. Definitely not a small YT. Gain quite a bit of the line back before he runs deep and I feel kelp rubbing. I thought the kelp had all died! Keep some pressure on the fish and take the opportunity to reel in the mega-bait when the fish saws through the kelp. Old, rotten, diseased kelp comes floating to the surface. The fish follows shortly after. YT! 35" and 18.5lbs. The rest of the day was uneventful. Seems like a slow pick on YT throughout the morning. Hopefully things will keep getting better. Anyone know what this fish I caught in Colonet is? I think it's a rare saltwater bluegill. [/img] |

thanks for the photo Brad. I've been trying to get a bone on the iron for a few trips now with no love. Nice.

Mystery Fish?
I concur on the rubber lipped perch! I've caught a few in Long Beach off Island Chaffee, it looks the same. Piranha

Boated my first Yellow in a Kayak. . . about time!
This 9lbr hit a smelt at the surface, a few minute after my last greenie got shredded for the last time and went belly up, and I was contemplating calling it another fishless day. |

Wow, it looks like many had good days. Looks like I picked a bad day to sleep in.
