I was out early this morning to slip in the narrow weather window. Gentle rain and S breeze. Then it cleared, the wind shifted to the W, started to blow and the short W swell and chop began to build. My cue to head on in. It looks "okay" from the beach but once you get past the reserve buoys, hang on. First time? I'd pick another day. Or you could always practice your surf launch/landing.
I plan on battening down the hatches for the next day or so. Caught and released one thresher (my first) so I had a good time. ...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM PDT THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING... .TODAY...WIND W 10 TO 15 KT WITH GUSTS TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT OR LESS. SWELL W 4 TO 5 FT AT 11 SECONDS. SCATTERED SHOWERS EARLY IN THE MORNING. .TONIGHT...WIND W 15 TO 20 KT WITH GUSTS TO 30 KT. WIND WAVES 3 FT. SWELL W 5 TO 6 FT AT 10 SECONDS. |

I too went out this morning. Got pretty choppy. Almost rolled it twice coming in. It is also supposed to get windier through out the day

would not have helped much today. After the first few hours, if the fish were not boiling next to you, you would not have seen them. I stayed out til 11:30ish with on and off whitecaps. Not a bad day to practice surf launch and landings though cause the waves were all chopped up.

I would wait until all the white caps die off if your just starting off..it can get real nasty out there in the canyon.
