Humminbird 345c Settings

I just got my first sonar and am learning to use it. The review by bing was super helpful. If you have one of these and have figured out how to set it for La Jolla fishing, I'd appreciate some info.

Do you use the 83khz and the 200, or just the 200?
Switchfire on?
RTS window on?
Do you use the advanced features? Which ones?
Bottom lock?

Thanks, Tom

I just bought the same unit and have been using it these past few outings.

I use 200 khz on the main screen.

When I want to see in 83, I use the split screen with 83 and 200 each side.

Switchfire is a great feature. It brings the 'bird's performance up there with the higher priced units. The older units were way too filtered, which I think handicaps them. I have it on MAX.

I like RTS. I have it on in a Narrow window. You notice something coming up NOW, instead of a seconds later.

Always have it on Advanced, otherwise some features will not be turned on.

I have it set on saltwater shallow for less than 200 feet.

Use Bottom Lock if you are NOT looking for structure but fish that at AT or ON the bottom. Theoretically, this is good for halibut.

Hope that helps.

BTW, you can get a little bit more out of the unit if you set MAX DEPTH from AUTO to a depth that is slightly deeper than your deepest fishing depth. In LJ, 180-300 would be good. Humminbird says this stops the unit from LOOKING deeper than it needs to, allowing the processor to work less on looking for BOTTOM and more on DETAIL and FEESH
