Luck o' the Irish...

First Happy St. Patty's Day to everyone reading this. High Pressure+little wind+current movement=Great morning on the water. Heard whisperings of fish being caught and wanted to give it a try this week since I was unsuccessful last week. Launched predawn with Kyle to ankle slappers and off we go. Bait was everywhere and easy to find, and catch. Made it out to where the other kayaks and PB's were milling around and dropped down the yoyo. Have one other rod out while yoyoing and turn around to check on it and its bent in half with spectra wizzing off. Kept pressure on the fish and let the circle hook do it's job. Sleigh ride for a couple minutes then felt rubbing. Spectra cut through at least 3 separate strands of kelp before fish came yakside. One quick gaff shot and she's in my lap. This is the first for me this year (and personal best). Met Rick on the beach that caught something nice to (but will let him tell his story if he chooses). Made a short trip to see Rick at OEX Kearny Mesa where official weight was 46 lbs.

I feel so very fortunate to be able to harvest this beautiful animal to feed my family. Having fresh fish vacuum packed in the freezer is quite a treat and blessing as it supplements meals instead of having to pay for meat.

Thanks Kyle for the OTW shot and beach shot!

Evan

Congrats! I'd definitely say there was a little luck of the Irish there!
How close to the kelp were the fish being caught?

now thats an otw shot!

Remember guys, everyone fortunate to catch one of these big white seabass should try and keep the head and turn it in to the the Hubbs white seabass hatchery program... you can take the otoliths out, or have them do it for you.

Great report btw!

Thanks everyone. It was really nice day indeed. Can't wait to get back out and enjoy our great San Diego resources.

Dos Ballenos, got the head ready for submission tomorrow after class, thanks for the reminder.

Fishinkid and PB Fisher, you have PM's...

Nice Fish Dude, I remember those days before my three month old Boy and two year old daughter were born. My pre dawn consist of pampers and bottles.
I will get out soon to become one with nature again.

Thanks for the inspiration. Joe

Nothing like corned beef, cabbage, a guiness, and a couple of hefty wsb fillets to make it a good day

Thanks Josh, I'm glad to be back on the water as well! Now that I am a full time consultant I can devote more time to the sport I love. My wife and I have had WSB 4 different ways since last Wednesday night, nowhere near Yani's skills but getting better. Favorites so far are the Pan/Roast with butter/garlic/lemon drizzle, and the WSB-Philly Roll...soooo good.
