The happy paddle

I arrived at the launch at 5:30am on Thursday, March 11th and noticed that the waves were much bigger than usual. I was concerned about the LA guys launching ahead of me since I didn't know if they would make it past the large waves. That was close!

Most of the morning was dead with nobody hooking up. Many of the guys gave up and left except for this one guy far off in the distance who refused to quit..YANI. We both noticed when out of nowhere hundreds of birds started to gather all around us. It became a feeding frenzy on the krill.

I told Yani, "There's gotta be big fish here!" Dropped the right color iron and got picked on the way down. Thanks again Yani for helping me unravel that WSB out of the kelp. And I also want to thank the air support my friends, the birds.

I made the happy paddle back with only one kayaker ahead of me who to my surprise also had a big WSB on board.

Wow, Gabe, that thing is a beast!! I had you to
my right and Doug on my left; both of you fighting
your WSB while I provided a cheering section...

Your WSB found the only strand of bull kelp out there.
It was touch and go until you got her free. Way to
keep your cool.

Thanks for the WSB fillets, my fam now has a new favorite.

Shhesh, that was only my second surf launch. The beach return was fine, but getting out was a task.

Great looking fish BTW.

Gabe, you created good karma by providing a gaff recently to a guy who hooked onto a big halibut. What goes around comes around and way to share the wealth.

Thanks gary, I appriciate that the kind words. The funny thing is, I forgot my gaff at home that day. The day you leave it at home is the day you will most certainly need it. Yani was nice enough to let me borrow his. The karma has been passed on to Yani.

BTW, Yani is fishing this morning. Hmmmmm i wonder how he did?
