Almost made it........

Oh, those crazy South Africans and their fishing skis. What will they attempt next?

This video shows the conditions at this year's Salt Rock Fishing Ski Comp. The fun really begins at about 2 minutes in.

More SA fishing ski video

Check out the video that they used for the Salt Rock Fishing Ski Comp registration instructions. The real gnarly part kicks in at about 1:15.

I guess nobody could say that the tournament organizers withheld info about expected conditions.

I wonder if I could nose-ride that thing??

If they close LJ I'll definently be in the market for one of those, and an apartment in OB/pt.loma.

I counted 9 fish in that yellow and white kayak. that is definitely excessive. Whats the limit over there? hope he eats all that! No wonder there aint no fish in La Jolla!

Definitely open water boats; designed for rough water. Lots of below deck storage; capsizing and getting back on would be a regular trick. Looks influenced by blue water racing sailboats.
In that part of the world; you probably would not want any dead fish or fisherman body parts dangling over the side.
Those are some pretty meaty offshore waves the one dude is punching through.

The Stealth fishing skis seem to be the best of the SA skis. A lot of Aussies are using them as well. The prices aren't that bad, but freight charges for an individual ski can be pricey.

Wow that looks like fun!
Those boys had to attack those waves, pretty easy to spot the rookies.

The dude in the white/red ski in the first vid had some skills. That's really fun to watch, thanks Doug.

I've tried to launch at Turmoline a couple times and it felt a bit like that.
Good times.

In the first interview with the guy in the dark it sounds like a 747 is warming up it's engines in the back ground. That's not a good sign. I've launched in some tough conditions but our SOT fishing yaks would not do well there. Mike

Catching fish like that would make it worth going out in head high pounding surf with the tax man lurking below.
