Weekend Report

Fished Friday night at Tidlands SD Bay and Sunday at La Jolla. Friday night was wide open with fish every cast. Good current made for a great drift. Used some reebs swimbaits and Berkley gulp NUCLEAR CHICKEN. Thanks Rik for letting us use the yak.

Some pictures from SD bay

Sunday fished mostly outside the hospital and inside. It seemed pretty fishy with bait everywhere and the water warming a bit through the afternoon. All day I saw bait swimming under me. Had some exciting moments with bites and quick runs on the live bait but could not get a fish to stick. I'm thinking small barracuda. Other than that it was a good day catching a handful of calico and a few rock fish all released. Launched at 6am and landed a little after 2pm into a boat launch zoo. Wish I brought my wheels to avoid having to drive my truck to the beach. Can't blame the tourist though, it was a beautiful day in SD.

one of the baits that was bit a couple times

Put the glove on to try and save my thumb

Look at the eye on this fish

there was a big cuda bite around 7AM. If you were out far enough a huge school came through off the corner with some big ol' logs in the mix. sunrise off LJ sunday morning was one of the most beatutiful I've ever seen - no marine layer. that came later. when that fog rolled in around 9 or so things slowed down. Once I could no longer see a coastline or a horizon I started getting seasick. This now makes 8 solid weekends (and a couple of Fridays) of fishing the canyons with nothing except a thesher and couple logs to show for it. I'm starting to get a little depressed.
