South Carlsbad?

Got a spot at S. Carlsbad SB for the weekend. If the surf is small I will make the paddle out. In might be a little tricky, but I'll just store my gear. Whats out there? I was thinking sandy beach, maybe some butts or some bass in the kelp. Any tips would be great. And if anyone wants to join me I'll be paddling out Sat a.m. just south of the ramp to the beach.

Thanks, Eric

straight off the main lifeguard tower, right at the entrance is a solid chunk of kelp...typical critters will be in there. north end is close to terramar kelp, same critter, always a seabass shot. south end is close enough to the artificial reef and even further, grandview kelp, so left, right and center are options with lots of sand in between.

good thing about that area is that the surf will keep the crowds light, and the fishing can be pretty solidly productive.

Hi Eric,

Bob here, (the guy who took your avatar photo). I have fished Cardiff quite a few times. I always catch a few small fish but never anything very exciting. There are lots of calicos in the kelp. I find that the wind there makes it difficult to stay on a spot very easily. Also, the current can sometimes be very strong.

I have seen some fishers paddle deep into the kelp and just sit on top of it next to a hole, yoyoing off the bottom. Taking my hobie deep into the kelp is a pain unless I remove the peddles so I have not tried that yet.

Best of luck and keep us posted on your results.

Bob

I have never caught anything on live bait there. Trolling Crocks will get you bonito and barricuda. Plastics will get you bass. I am sure there are halibut in the area but have not caught any so far.

Nate from OEX claims that there are YT and WSB in the area but I have not seen any caught.

THanks guys and girls....
This is what you gotta do: to activate your tomtom you need catch a flight to Provo. When you get there, you need to find Daphne. Ask her, she'll give you a key. From there, you need to get to Santiago, get the sword from Charlie and cut the rope. The map will lower from the cacooya tree. Take that map and soak it in lemon juice. The secret message will appear and your tomtom will be fully activated and should provide years of pleasure.

Wait...what rope? And which cacooya tree, is there only one?

What if my tomtom is a pampam?

Is the Wizard aware of this?

Gotta find that crack that will eliminate the need....
