Catapalooza '09 Pix

31 of us boarded the MDR Flyer on Friday morning at 8:30 AM. The furthest came all the way from Utah. We got to Two Harbors via Avalon before noon and piled our camping gear for the gear haul to Little Harbor. We then loaded all the kayaks on a 2 stakebeds for the isthmus crossing. We walked across and set up to paddle and fish the 4 miles to camp. Saturday Josh and Steveo showed up and Zed did his beer batter magic. Brian and Blair showed up in his Parker as well and floated a ton of squid that night for one and all. Sunday night Moyer was the chef, 30 pounds of tri tip sounds about right for 33 guys. Day one jackpot went to Les and a halibut, day 2 went to Andy with a WSB (the one and only legal WSB) Day 3 went to Alan with a halibut and Day 4 went to Ed with a halibut. We fished hard and ate like kings.........I killed more cigars than fish, but the winds were kind enough for some to paddle to the Farnsworth on Sunday and we caught quite a few halibut and bass. Thanks for all who made this trip a lot of fun!

Fishing without a schedule and drifting this way and that is something I could get used to.

Nice pics it looks like we missed out being boat bound.. maybe if Brian and I attend next year in the boat again we will have transportation from the boat to the shore so we can more fully enjoythe festivities.

Great trip. Awesome group of guys. Big thanks to Andy for throwing this little thing together.

Highlight for me was the amount of species that I caught. I caught at least 20 species that I can remember, but I’m sure I’m forgetting some. I was able to check a few new ones off the list as well.

Here is my species list (in no particular order)
1-Calico Bass
2- Spotted Bass
3Sand Bass
3- Halibut
4- Yellowfin Croaker
5- Blue perch
6- Blacksmith perch
7- Sargo
8- Garibaldi
9- Sheepshead
10- Legal Ling (My first in season)
11- Sculpin
12- Vermillion
13- Starry
14- Gopher
15 - Brown Rockfish?
16- Greenback Mack
17- Sardine
18- Spanish Mack
19- Nudibranch
20- Rock Wrasse (Male & Female)
21- Senorita

I know that most of that list is trash fish or bait fish, but it is pretty cool to be able to sight cast 20 ft deep into a virtual aquarium. Who else here has sight casted to sheepshead?

Here are the triple nipple stats.
CJ made some deal with the devil.
I won 4.
Moyer ended up a one time winner, but a 20 time participant in the final roll.
Drew won 4 in a row. That is statistically impossible.
Nate rolled 6 triples in a row, then made it rain on unsuspecting strangers.

Heres some of my pics

Chef Troy and Chef Moyer Ramsey made two delicious meals

This is how Aaron pees

Dan Cheating Death

Perfect weather. No swell, no wind, just a little overcast.

Blue ling

Anacapa’s chunky sculpin from Farnsworth

Short Hali

Rock Wrasse (Female)

The ever elusive blue perch

Check out the over-sized motor on this tiny calico. Fought like a 5 lber.

Taco time (just kidding)

Numero Dos

About 30 of these little guys. Scrappy.

My first

Caught about ten of these.

For sure this is one of my favorite trips of the year. VERY exhausting, but absolutely worth it. Cant wait til next year.
