Four hours in a Norwegian fjord, only caught one..

My second trip report, same result as yesterday...
But what a nice day on the water!!
Drove directly from work to a place called Vaksdal, just outside Bergen, the second largest (and prettiest ) city in Norway.
This is a place that has been reported to have many escaped Rainbow trouts, and I set out to try to catch a few of them...
But as the pictures tells, I did not get lucky this time...
But next time!!!

No rodholders yet, so had to cross my rods and use some 0,60mm as rodleash.

This island is actually part of one of the largest prisons in Norway. There are about 30 inmates/prisoners there. Both male and female. It is a low security prison.

Landed my kayak at the "alcatraz" for a quick snack and a chat with one of the guys working there. He used to be my mentor when I worked there in 2007.

The boat that you barely can see, is the boat that they uses to and from the island. The other twos are "just in case" boats

Here you can see two of the houses that the inmates lives in. They have four-six bedrooms, a big livingroom, kitchen and a bathroom. CableTV, flatscreen, and the things you need to be rehabilitated and live a life without crime.

If someone wonder, I did not "do time" on the Island, it was part of my education. Worked there from august till december 07.

Thanks for the report and great pictures.. How do I get arrested and sent to this beautiful place?? I did fudge on my income taxes one year - does that qualify? In America it would be considered cruel & unusual punishment to not provide a kayak and fishing gear to each inmate.

That is a real Norwegian name!
Actually I met quite a few americans in Iraq 04 that had Norwegian surnames. the vikings did a good jobb travelling and planting their seeds some time ago..

If by drop offs you mean depths that drops deep, you are right Sognefjorden, that is our largest fjord has a max depth of 1 308 meters...
Not far from my place.

the inmates on the Island have a nice stack of fishing gear.... so no worries. Just do a crime on norwegian soil, and I can help you to apply for a bed there

Picked up the yak on saturday in sweden, the rod holders will come.
I sure need them!
Haven't decided where to put them yet, but there is enough space on the ship.

Kajakk not Kano

Thanks for the correction.

I have an X Factor and love it! Caught allot of fish on it, and can also fit my 5 year old on the back.

Good luck with it~

What other kinds of fish do you catch locally? Do you ever catch salmon? My grandmother was from Norway so I've always had an interest in things Norwegian, so I enjoyed Your post a lot. Thanks.

Hey Aleksander, you should have took a Swede along if you wanted more fish! It looks amazing there, -hope to see it one day, my Dad spoke of the fjords as being the most beautiful waters in the world... we are planning on taking a cruise around Norway up to the Arctic Circle, in a couple of years.
Thanks for a great report hope you post many more. K.Swenson
