looks like a slimy midshipman. hard to confirm from the angle.

That looks like a Manta Shrimp. if so be cautious around their front mandibles they pack a punch.

I caught one out there a couple of years ago, if I remember correctly it had some sort of rattlesnake type fangs as well. Shook it off the hook quickly as it was such a strange looking fish. Went home and researched and it was claimed to be excellent table fare.

Manta shrimp
I caught One that size in SD bay bait dock around 3:00 pm today.
and that's not all? A 10lb starfish, 1 octopus, 4 lizard fish and 1 short but. All on mega bait jig. Yes! a very weird but great day of fishing. Sorry no pics. Can't get pics out of my phone... |
