Yo-Yoing this weekend

I have never tried Yo-Yoing but plan to go out at LJ this weekend to give it a shot. I am also new to winter kayak fishing and don't know what to expect this time of year.

Should I try to make bait on this trip or just concentrate on learning how to use the iron? Other than trying to hook one the elusive home guard YT on iron, what else may be biting? What techniques work best this time of year.

Thanks for your help.

It is supposed to be extremely windy this weekend. Be careful.

I always plan to Yo-Yo should the bait fail me. What time will you be on the beach tomorrow? I plan on being out around 5:30 to check the conditions. If too windy then off to the harbor for me.

Hi Dorf,

Given the windy forecast, I may stay home and do some honeydos. I can promise that I will not be there at 5:00. Too early for me this time of year.

I was going to hit LJ but my youngest told me, as I was putting him to bed last night, that he wished he could go fishing with me. So I changed my plans and took him to San Diego Harbor. He caught a nice sized sculpin and we had Fish Tacos for lunch.

I actually wish I had been at the launch this morning at 0-dark O'clock. I woke up at around 5:00 and saw the most beautiful orange full moon setting over the hills by my house. The view from the beach would have been spectacular. If anyone went out on Saturday and took a picture, that would be a great post.

The moonset on Sunday should be almost as good except that it will be light, (around 7:25). With the sun rising and the moon setting it is always a great photo opportunity.

Anyone launching tomorrow morning should bring a camera and try to get a great shot. If you get one, please post.

It was nice early (so I hear), but the 30 mph northeast wind showed up in the afternoon...at least 25 mph easy.

I think I might still be paddling in if I was on the X-Factor .
