DVL Dec 18th "I'm All Alone I Am"

Well, I had to use a floating holiday at work by the end of this week or else I'd loose it. That plus a break in the whether plus it was overcast, plus I thought they were going to stock today. So you see, it all added up for a striped bass. I was sixth in line at 5:30. It was chilly and light icy breeze at launching. I paddled one way and look back, about 1/2 mile to my back I see birds working a cove. I paddle my ass off, which was easier than a good day at LJ. When I finally reached the cove the action is over, just birds sitting like nothings going on, like "what". I look down in the 10' of water and see two bass swim under me, one well over 10lbs the other maybe 2-3. I cast a plug in the direction their headed, 5 cranks and I'm on. But it's feels like I got the smaller one. The line peels across the front of my kayak and I'm on for my first fresh water tow. Definitely not the small one. I'm on my mitchell 330 with 8lb floro, and it's a steady tow with no drag. Maybe ten minutes at yakside and I'm face to face with a nicer grade stripper. But It's hooked in the eye socket. Big flap and I'm left with eye skin. Three hours later and I'm into some cookie cutter bass on the 3" anchove swimbait. I get a nicer grade of bass almost every 1/2 hour for the next 3 hours. It was an above average day for me today. Maybe one day I'll have someone to talk to.

Cool sights for me today were:
1)That 10+ bass that swam under me.
2)Some kind of bird of pray swooped down not more than 50' and *PaTack* took flight with a trout I wouldn't mind catching.
3)Father and son (maybe 6yo) on the point casting for striped bass. The kid was getting more distance than me. I thought it would've been a cool picture.

Landed at 1:30pm. Marina dude said there were no striped bass caught brought past him.

DVL

Just curious, why can you fish from a sit inside and not a sit on top at DVL?

Its kinda BS but its a No Water Contact issue. have to run 4 strokes (or approved 2 strokes) there as well.

"I'm All Alone I Am" that's how we used to feel in LJ a few years back - keep posting pictures of those pigs and you won't be alone for long.

Great Report. Nice Piggie Bass! I gotta hit DVL someday, but unfortunately when I am able to sneak away 'n fish, the chance for a Hog hali or WSB always wins in my decision process. Although with some of the stripers I have seen pulled out of DVL, the playing field might be a little more even...

I doubt it. It's not a troll one high one low type of fishing. You have to know how to fish. A day like this is one in 30+. Even with the world record bass fishing the lake was never crowded with bass boats. I would love to see this lake loaded with kayaks.
You caught me, my real plan is to lure all the yakers from LJ, so I can be all alone there

Oh, and I think Iceman has or can get some bitchen sit in sides.

Ooooohhh. I think I see an impending pelagic v. bass fishing debate in the offing. Subtle, dismissive description of trolling for pelagics, weather-induced fishing hiatus, the internet. Yep; all the elements are there for a gully-washer of an internet fishing forum argument. Yeah. It has been pretty boring around here lately.

Sorry. I'm a bad person.

Great job on the pig bass. That lake will produce some monster fish in the near future. I was involved with the development of that lake and got a tour from the park ranger who set up all the habitats before the lake was filled. They put a lot of thought into it and from the looks of your posts it looks like it paid off.

Don’t get me wrong boys and girls because I too would love to see that lake and all waters suitable for fishing filled with human powered yaks and fishermen.
