Oxnard?
I grew up there. Last time I fished there was 20 years ago and it ROCKED! I plan on going back soon and I hope it is still that way. I think I heard about some restrictions on fishing around the Jetty. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Is there a Silver Strand in Oxnard, or do you mean the one near IB?

Silver Strand is a straight up surf launch. The surf can be big so look for rips when launching. It's all sand bottom with no stucture or kelp so you can guess the species. You can also fish the bay side there so there are two good yakfishing options.

Like he said it can be thumping surf, but there is kelp out there, just south of the Pier is a pretty thick bed.

Check for bacteria counts, in particular after a rain.

Thumbs up Silver Strand

Thanks, like always good help

I am not the best for take offs and landing on the beach, I have jumped off in waist high water and hung on the the back of my yak, just so I wouldn't pearl!

Next summer I will take the Yak Safety Class in LJ, so I can run with Da' Big Dogs!

Update on our trip...
To much surf for me...Although I did find out that you could launch from the east side of the strand out into the bay. Set out for some flat ones...nope! made a few drifts south of where I launched, nada.

So packed up headed back to the trailer... Enjoyed the location, even though no fish to show in the camera, finished up with a cold one a tall shot of T'killya, surf fishing...by the way nada again!

Until another day!

We camped there last summer and it was wall to wall people. The waves were small but we never launched from the beach.

I've surffished the bayside many times with live ghostshrimp and its always been great fishing no matter what time of the year. (the little lagoon is a dead area). Only thing on the ocean side is perch and rays.

Silver Strand...

I inderstand form the blogs that this place can get out a hand during the summer. I guess thats why the trolls at the gate give you the details "in detail" about the rules!

Hey, I am out to have a good time.. but not have to deal with the drunked fools who could ruin it for may family. We are going again in the spring a give it another go!

It is a nice location for fishing other places in San Diego but the problem is they lock the gate at night and do not open it till 8:00 am in the morning. If you are planning on fishing Shelter Island or Mission Bay you can't get on the water until after 8:00 am.

Strategy for early getaway

If you're using the Strand as a home base and you need to get away early, park a vehicle across the highway in the Cays development with your gear stashed. Hike out, get in the car and jam! There's plenty of fish to be had in the South Bay, just not a lot of monsters. Bring a shrimp pump and hit the bayside to make bait at tides under 3'. Dropshot 12"-18" up to keep your bait outta the eelgrass. You ought to catch something, at least some spots, maybe a bonefish, which will you make you smile on light tackle.

Cool Silver Strand

There is a tunnel that takes you across the highway into the bayside...kinda scary to leave anything lying around I launched there and called for pick up...I spoke to a few people who have had great luck wiht ghost shrimp...Next time I will try those!

We are going to get another try, in a few weeks. (IF ITS NOT TO COLD) The wife won't like it!
