Baytubers (kayak) Monthly Halibut Tournament, February 13th, 2021 - La Jolla Shores (AGAIN!)
We know it's the day before Valentine's Day... get your priorities straight!!! get your girl (or guy) a fish dinner! (plus some extra cash...) Well during these pandemic crazy times, it's time to get back to some sense of normalcy... the return of the monthly halibut tournaments! Date: Saturday, February 13th, 2021 Place: La Jolla Shores meet at the launch Time: 6am launch, 1 pm final weigh-in Rules: All DFW rules & regulations apply - $20 entry (money between friends situation) - Single biggest (by weight) halibut wins total - A tie results in a split of the winnings - 1 pound per minute deduction on late fish (after 1 pm) - If no halibut are caught, the entry fees stay in the pot and rollover for the next month's tournament. Social distancing and mask wearing is encouraged... Note: Please get there early for sign ups, or find the tournament director on the water at ch 69. Make sure to have all necessary safety gear. Be aware of the reserve areas (no fishing). A radio is strongly recommended. This is a money between friends situation, let's keep it simple and friendly. Any issues or decisions are to be resolved by the tournament director. For more info check out baytubers.com. Please note that if the weather/surf conditions are sketchy, we'll use Dana Point as a backup plan... All Levels of experience are welcome! Fish, Compete, Be Safe, and have Fun! |

Sets were pretty good size yesterday, but long time between the big sets (if you timed it). Wind pretty much sucked for most of the morning. Bait was good (numbers if not size) when you found it over by the pier buoys. Not so good on the other side. Lots of shark action and YT cruising thru, and one nice Halibut caught for the win (33#).
