5/4 SD Bay

Well after quite some time away from the kayaking world... I’m back at it. Bought and sold a few boats, got married, had a baby... LIFE!

I picked up a PA from fastlane last week and am super stoked on the upgrade from my revo. Hobie has really done a great job!

Fished the big tide change this morning. Launched at Kellogg and picked up a kayak scoop of bait. Sardines were bigger and healthy.

Focused mainly on the south side of the bay and got into a pretty killer ripper of a bite. Halibut, sculpin, sandbass, spotties. Snapped a few pics.

Fish got very active 45 min after the high when the current really picked up. The red tide seemed to let up a little as well with the outgoing tide.

Caught all the halibut on a 3-way rig with trap hook. Warbaits 1oz underspin weedguard with a 5” swimbait accounted for most the bass. I was fishing the anchovy color mostly.

Great way to spend a Monday morning- back home in Carlsbad by 1130.

I keep getting an error message trying to upload the photos- but they aren’t anything special.

No one there when I launched. A handful when I returned.

Does this mean south of the bridge, or south of the bait barge?

Bet it felt great to be back on the water...How was the water clarity as I want to fish the SD bay but have a 1.5 hour drive and rather not fish if red tide is still heavy. Thanks

Worse with no current moving. Once it started going I could see the bottom in about 12’ of water. Still hazy but not bad

Nice job man! Thanks for report. That’s a long ride from Kellogg’s to south side of the Coronado bridge, should just launch more down south. Tidelands Park is a good launch and you’re right there, glorieta bay is right there
