First trip 2019
Launched by the pier and headed north. Super flat and calm. The kelp was thick and the bass were biting. Got 7 Calicos and 1 Sandy. Most fish caught in about 30ft of water around the kelp on a Warbaits 3/4 underspin in sexy dine. Also caught a couple trolling a Rat-L-Trap around the shallows. Had 1 really good bite tossing a lure at something that was chasing some baitfish on top. Pulled drag for a couple seconds and came off. Never saw it. Oh well. Super fun morning. Only me and the seals. |

How far of a paddle is the kelp from there?
Is it easy to launch there? |

Nice. I live pretty close and was thinking about hitting that spot up soon when I get a new kayak next month. What's the parking situation like there?

There is a lot north of the pier but I just park on the PCH. There are a couple openings in the fence and you can just drag your kayak down to the water.
I usually fish on a weekday so parking is easy at sunrise, especially if there is no surf. |

I remember fishing there 20 years ago. It was really convenient to park in the lot to the north of the pier and launch there, relatively calm and protected. My only complaint was that the water seemed funky, not as clean as other parts of Malibu.

I just scoped it out over the weekend, everything looked chocolate brown. I thought it was just due to the rain but it definitely looked funky.
