Malibu

Easy surf launch with Reiner this morning at sunrise with no wind, little long period waves, and glassy conditions.

There was loads of bait around being harassed by undersized cudas and dolphins and the kelp was super thick and healthy. The water color was really green.

Tossed a 3/4 oz. underspin in red and white for most of the morning. Fishing was surprisingly slow but I ended up with 3 Calicos, 2 Sandys, and 2 rockfish. All released. Not sure what type of rockfish. Maybe olives? Reiner picked up a few bass as well.

Water felt pretty warm. I know because I turfed it on the landing. Seems like I do it every time. Fortunately I stowed all my gear inside so no casualties. I hate a beach break. Fuck those little sneaker waves.

Off the water by around 11 or so. Fun morning.
Here's a few pics.

Yup a fun morning for sure. Next time you are in calf deep water maybe just get out instead of waiting for the next wave

Looks like a grassy rockfish to me. Glad you guys got out that day. Think I saw you guys from my buddy's boat that day.

Thanks for the fish ID Denis.
I'm on a camo Trident 13 and Reiner paddles a grey Malibu. Saw one boat out there on the outside edge of the kelp. The Betty O moved in to that spot as we were landing.
That must have been you. How did you do?
See you out there sometime or message me if you ever want to go out.
Best, Steve
