LJ 09-12-08 Late Report
Tried to make bait at the pier. Only made one sardine and one very large Green back. tried until 7:30 then took me and my sad bait north. Once at the pump house, the bait started getting active and I made a tank full of perfect sardine. I trolled north one high one low until I caught this nice bass on the fly in about 60'. I'm not sure how long or heavy it is, but my yak is 33" across. I realest it in good shape for next time. My guess is 28". The rest of the day was a slow troll back with nothing else happening. didn't hear of anyone else getting anything. Fished a bit with Yani but he was with a friend who never fished LJ so they went to the condo area. See you next time, Maybe Dana point? Launch and landing were dry. Skies were cloudy all day. Wind not bad. Swell not bad from the south west. Last edited by habanero; 09-13-2008 at 02:17 PM. |

Awesome fish!
I was completely obsessed with breaking the 10 lb Calico barrier for many years. After multiple 8's, and watching my friend pull a 9+ off the Dog beach jetty, I finally caught my prize off of all places the Mission jetty (released to keep making babies). The good news is, as soon as I caught my trophy Calico the obsession was over, and I completely quit targeting Calico's to this day. I would have to guess she is a solid 8.5 lb+, and could be right at the 10 lb barrier (hard to tell without an exact length and pictures can be missleading). No joke, a fish of a lifetime, as she will probably be the biggest one you ever catch, so thanks for sharing.
