Costa Rica (Non-Kayak)
I had a blast and brought a small travel rod and lexa300 with me to try from the beach which based on what I read before going on the trip seemed like it could be really productive. Didn't have any luck in the rivers up in the mountains but I ended up catching a big Jack Crevel (funny thing is in CR they call them 'jurel' just like YT in mexico.) Also caught a decent rooster which i have some shitty footage of down at the beach. Went out on a nice boat with the pops and brother for a half day too which was awesome. Enjoy the pics. Pura Vida! Here is a raw clip of releasing the rooster i got from the beach... https://youtu.be/4rEfG8pYU54 tight lines |

Looks like a really fun trip! Thanks for the report!
Anytime you can hook up to a rooster is special! By far my favorite fish in the ocean. |

I was out in Quepos in March , lots of fun. Did you meet any Tica's while you were out there?

Woooo thanks guys definitely a great trip with the whole family.. been around 7-8 years since we had done a trip with all 5 of us. Will for sure remember those two fish off the beach forever.
John! First Toro for me! The locals didn't know what I was talking about when I said toro thats how I found out they call it jurel there.... so bizarre. |

All-in-all it was a relatively slow day on the boat, we had high expectations.... Ya that's a barracuda when I first saw color (stripes) I yelled wahoo but uh ya i was wrong haha such heavy gear honestly was just a steady crank not super playful. Couple days before we went they had multiple sails and couple big dorado.. oh well! |
