Yeah go for it. Thats what I did but it was expensive when building with parts from retails stores. I've sourced suppliers that can provide everything at much better prices. I've also had them custom make the 'attachment solution'. And making those mini-trace lures on yr own can be hours of fun. I've have a Sabiki manufacturer lined up to make then for me.

So roughly $25 to $30 in US currency. Not bad.

Do you have an estimate on when they would become available?

I did not see how he did a cast, how he reeled in, but I am going to try using a top section of an old rod.

Just for the hell of it.

I still like my Sabiki rod, but I have not used it in a kayak yet.

Shoot I would think that a coat hanger would work just fine, dumb down the number of hooks to 3-4 just to avoid a clusterf*ck.

You’re about right. It’ll be cheaper that a Sabiki rod setup.

I’ll run the Kickstarter when I have 200-300 people signed up. When it starts they'll be notified first so they can get in on a limited earlybird discount reward.

Sign up if yr keen. google search: blackbow co nz

Please tell your mates about it too, I need all the help i can get. More importantly I want to help people like poor T-REX. I hope his finger came good in the end.

Not to cheat the guy, I'm not going to make them to sell but yesterday I bought a piece of carbon fiber tubing three feet long for $3, I already have a big bag of beads and epoxy and swivels. Instead of attaching the top and bottom swivels to the carbon fiber I will pass a heavy leader through the tub and attach swivels at both ends, use 18" of the tube and epoxy beads at four places on the shaft so swivels can be clipped on and not slide up and down the tube. I'll let you guys know how it works. I bought a box of tackle at a yard sale that had about 10 sabikis in it so I will use them to tie the individual hooks to swivels so the are easy to attach. Now I can leave the sabiki rod home and use a regular rod to catch some bait then just store the sabiki stick and get back to fishing.

I have a question for the experts. How often do you hook a big fish on a sabiki? I'm trying to figure out how heavy a leader should I use in the carbon fiber tube. It should be heavy enough to hold a heavy weight if looking for bait in deep water but how heavy. Should I just use a steel leader and crimp a swivel on each end? A piece of 65lb braid would work also. Let me know what you think.

While waiting for the experts I will chime in.

I am intrigued by this as well and I have everything I need to make one. I am thinking that coated steel would be best as the hollow tube will hold saltwater, which will start uncoated steel leader rusting in short order. Braid would work as well but I am concerned about abrasion at each end of the tube. If using braid I would consider having a bead at each end, glued to the tube.

Not often I hook a big fish, nevermind whether or not it is on a sabiki.

Sabiki version 502 soon to be tested.

I think the sabiki idea is intriguing. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Taking a hook every once in a while is just part of the game

Thankfully, thats not me....

I got the first two make. The easy part is running 40lb flourocarbon down the tube for the swivels. Putting beads on the tube wasn't bad, I bought a bag of what is called pony beads, about 100 for $3, the carbon fiber tube was about $4, swivels $2 and $5 for the sacrificial sabiki. The hard part is putting the sabikis on the swivels. They are on short leaders and they are snelled onto the leaders so you can't replace the leader. You want them short enough to not get tangled with each other but about 4" long to hold them off the rod. I tied them on this time but I think a crimp will also work. I will let you know how it works when I get out next week.

It turned out pretty good I think. I've only had one chance to fish it and I was following a couple of other kayakers so I didn't get a chance to fish it right but i think it will work fine. I'll know better next time I'm out. I'll post a picture tomorrow. I made the mistake of not making a holder for it so I had it hanging in the camper shell, I stuck my arm in to get something and got caught by one of the hooks in my forearm deep. I couldn't remember the method of using a piece of line to get it loose and I couldn't push it through to get it out I finally took my needle nose pliers and ripped it out. That will make your eyes water a bit. It sure went in a lot easier than it came out.
