We can only hope more YT come around. 2 weeks ago at CDM I was YT splashing surface for bait fish 25 yards away, threw swim bait over but he moved on already. Some Day I will land my first YT!! Actually maybe its too late as the waters are cooling down.

Way cool, were you guys just blind casting or did you meter bait and start working it?

We were blind casting, we didn’t meter or see any bait. There was a post about a week earlier that someone else picked up a few YT so we gave it a shot. Picked up a couple of the biggest bonito we’ve ever caught that same day. We actually thought they were YT.

Nice catch there. Maybe one day I'll score a nice yellow there. All I seem to catch
On my yak are nice wakes over my bow by boats ripping through by the mouth of the harbor :/

Newportdogs, post more if you can, good stuff.
I haven't had as much time to fish this year (I'll be out in yellow Revolution 11) but haven't caught any bones this year from Newport the two times I've been out. I've only caught calicos macks cudas and an occasional sheep for some reason. I've been fishing with artificials only though

I've honestly wondered why Newport area doesn't get more consistent yellowtail bites like la jolla, has a steep canyon wall inshore, lots of kelp structure bait etc, seems like the ideal habitat for them to thrive in

^^^^What are the water temps down in LJ? At NPH temps have been 64-68 degrees at the harbor and surrounding areas August Sept. Not sure what it was June July.

Looks like the tide conditions will be very similar to 9-17 this Saturday. I will be out there on the jetty trying my luck again.

Were you out on the Jetty? I rented a skiff and saw the swell breaking over the Jetty on Saturday.

Yes I was on the jetty.
I watch the tides and waves on Tides4Fishing and Surfline.
That morning it was 3.6 high at 7:15. But yes some of the waves were coming up pretty high. (I won't admit to getting my feet wet.) The waves were suppose to be 3-4 feet with some bigger sets. That's about my limit.
