Is there NO one who has been here besides Jim S? Not a lot of information about this area as far as camping spots or specific fishing areas. Rather not go with Mag Bay Outfitters, so your help would be great. This trip has been om my BUCKET list for 50 YEARS, I will make it happen. Hope you can make it.

I have a spearo friend here in Asuncion that goes down there several times a year. I'll try to pick his brain. Not exactly my kind of fishing but maybe I should take a trip to check it out.

I've spent hours and hours on Google Earth over the years dreaming about that place. I pretty much came to the conclusion that the bay is so big, that trying to hit multiple locations would be difficult, unless I was staying multiple weeks.
I just re-visited the maps and cut this area out I had identified earlier - north of Adolfo Lopez Mateos - nice wide beach access hilighted on the right to camp and launch from, with tons of mangrove channels to the north, and access out to the main channel easily doable for Halibut and WSB. Just for reference, the little dots straight out from the launch are a whole group of Pangas one mile out using the Google ruler - I'm going to guess fishing, since the image date is early October, a little too early for whales.
Lopez Mateos is also a good place to hook up with a mother ship charter, or super panga to head out for Wahoo action.
Wherever the trip ends up, it's going to be awesome I'm sure.
I'm going to try very hard to be on this trip Bob...

It is time to try and put this together. Last year I spent NEW YEARS EVE in Gonzaga. I would really like to do it again this year. Buddha sang MEXICAN.
So my proposal is to leave 30 DEC for our place in Gonzaga spend NEW YEARS day there then leave early on the 2nd for Mag Bay. We would drive thru Coco's Corner to Chapala then south on Mex 1 to Mag Bay. That road is passable for most vechicles, made it fine last year with one wheel drive pick up. Or you guy's could meet up with me at Chapala. Let me know if we can work this out. Thanks, Tight Lines.

MAG BAY UPDATE 21 September

Time to get real serious about this trip.

EVERYONE needs to CONFIRM, that they are coming, who is riding with who, also your TWO choices of places to camp and fish. Do we need to consider maybe hiring a panga one day to fish outside? It is time to put this together, get it planned and get on the road.

We really need two other 4X4's to do this trip safely as there will be off road areas to be traversed and 3 good trucks should keep us out of danger. We need to start thinking about camp gear specially sun tarps for camp and cooking areas.

Personally I have been DREAMING about this trip for 50+ years, it is time to get it done. Tight Lines.

Anyone going have room for me and my yak?

What would you gestimate the total cost for this trip to be Bob?

1. Waiting for Maghigeer to confirm, I might have or can make room for you to ride with me..

2. Actual dates would be 30 Dec to Gonzaga for NYE pariy. Return to San Diego 13th of Jan 2017.

3. Cost ??? Fuel, my truck round trip around $400-$450. Split 3 ways about $150 each plus your meals, drinks, tackle, I would guess total per should be about $300 each if we do dogs, burgers, fish, burritos and the like. You would be resposible for one to two days meals. We should each do breakfast and dinner on our day to keep it fair and easier for all. A restaurant might do it if available., depends on where we are. I would expect fish for dinner most days and eggs, pancakes, etc for breakfst. Breakfast burritos anyone??? Bring your snacks for a fishing lunch on your yak or the beach. Water will be important so we will need to bring it all with us.

4. A lot will depend on how many are coming, and their trucks. I should be able to carry, You, Mahigeer, Me, our yaks, and our gear, food and drinks too.

5. Breakfast can be done the evening before and set aside for the morning so whoever wanted to get an early start could pick it up and head out, we did this the last Gonzaga trip and it worked great.

6.

Totally have room for you ROB. This WILL BE a trip of a lifetime for most of us.

I will be taking a 2000W generator, 5 gallons of gas, 3 burner propane stove with large grill and 5 gal propane tank. Cooking utensels, pots and pans and some spices. Large ice chest and a 2.5 Cubic foot portable freezer, and some outdoor night lights. Also dish soap. BBQ is a Green mountain pellet grill, so we can smoke, grill, bake.

YOU will need fork, knife, spoon, plate, and cup. comfortable chair and sleeping gear, tent?

WE will need SHADE, for camp and food prep area. Tarps, tye lines, stakes. ALSO an extra 5gal propane tank and maybe an extra 5 gal of gas for generator. Power strip for charging of electronics.

Generator will be run 4-5 hours each evening for charging.
