Andy, congrats on the tickets.
Been fishing Barrett for 4 years now except for last year. The low water level and limited ability to move around and not get in the way of others kept me away. Though I would consider going again just to spend the night in Alpine, enjoy the Alpine brewery great food and bring home a couple of growlers. If you can get out and back to Alpine by the time they close I recommend a stop there. You can’t find Alpine beer down here so liquor stores there are an option. Please let us know how it is. PS, you sold me the green Thresher a couple of months ago. Love the boat, thanks for the great service. |

I grabbed a kayak/tube spot on the 2nd weekend. It will be my first time in a kayak(usually get a boat) in that nice little mud hole.
Last year shad colored rapalas cast right up to the bank was the ticket for me. |

kayakers use the shore tube tickets. Last year's low water level was disappointing, but gotta get my fix!

These forums provide fish reports and info. In July and August it gets to be 100 degrees out there. Be sure to pack plenty of water. http://www.sdfish.com/forums/f/barrett-fishing-reports/ http://www.sdfish.com/forums/f/barrett-lake/ |

Wow. Thanks for those pics. I haven't seen Barrett in ~10 years. I started duck hunting Barrett in the 1990's. When the water level was up, they had 22 blinds scattered around the lake. During a drought, they only had room for 9 blinds and you could hardly draw a blind. The water was so low at some spots, you could shoot and almost hit the other side. Pathetic, so I quit hunting it. Looks about the same or worse actually now. Good luck wackin' the bass! |
