All right, the new leader board.

Why don’t we use this thread to congratulate moves, greet people on board, give each other crap? Perfect for that.

Congrats to Brad on nice offense in July. Congrats to all that scored.

Dave, who is that guy below you with that big white fish? Tell him to stay down there.

Game on - good fishing to all in August!

Adi,

I don't recognize that guy behind me but I think he works in La Jolla and has to travel
to far away places to catch cool fish. I can't say much because even he caught a yeller in July-
Nice passing me by and knocking me out of the top 10 Adi
Where did you come from :?: Nice flattie by the way
I assume Brad wants to go back there this week.
Lets paddle out of the harbor to that spot some day. I keep getting the dinky flatfish-
Good eating but not many points :!:
How about that Chris getting all exotic on us
I notice he wasn't in his green boat-I wonder if it matters...
Dave

Welcome to the top 10 Adi. Tag team for exotics next! Dave, we should definitely work that spot, if I can remember where it is  . Unfortunately, I think this thing is all going to come down to flatties.

Go get em Adi. A well timed mulligan or a 50lb tuna might just get you up in the money!

I think Adi will be regretting using his (1 time) wildcard after San Carlos in a few weeks

I thought we could upgrade. :?: :?: :?:

Quote:
Brad I like the idea of being able to upgrade on both counts. Let me see what Cornholio has to say about it.
Quote:
I concur Dr. Allen.

we'll have to note that in the rules.

EXOTICS: Each angler will also be given the opportunity to submit one of the following species ONE TIME PER YEAR for 3 points per pound in addition to the regular monthly submissions: albacore, bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna (yeah right), dorado, and ocean-caught salmon (any species).
Seems rather unfair to change the rules as we go along. Changing it next year seems logical and ethical.

More unfair to change the rules when it affects no one, then unchange them after people already played by the adjusted ones. The quoted discussion occurred in early January in the thread on the rules.

Adi got you guys nervous?

The rules were never changed. It was discussed, but not actually changed. This was copied today:

Sure he does, and Chris too. . And anyone else. We don't share your comfort zone.

I was also under impression that the Exotic sub can be upgraded. It looks like there was a consensus from WCW powers to be, it was going to be noted in the rules, but never actually happened. I guess it’s their call, since they dropped the ball in a way.

I’m all for making the rules that make sense. It makes sense to be able to upgrade on your Exotics just like it makes sense to submit your C&R YT without a tape shot, something we all silently agreed on without formally noting it in the rules. Silly “regulatory” clauses should not be a major thing determining someone’s placement on the list. I think the whole “must be submitted by midnight last day of the month” requirement is quite impractical; we’ve got to re-think that one. There are people that were hurt by that one. I don’t feel good passing them on the list.

I can reassure you all that I’m having a blast regardless. I’m amazed that I am the 5th on the list – makes me regret all the trips I made on my boat last winter, when I was more focused on bringing meat home and not getting my ass wet then on scoring WCW points…

I’m cool with whatever, no worries.

Hey A&J, I am flattered that you feel 120 pts lead in September is not enough of a comfort zone… Watch out though - I plan to take you down with a flat brown strategy…

Game on!!!!

Congratulations to anyone who passes us up for 3rd place, as the rules stood when we joined this contest.
Bending of the rule of a tape shot for a yellow is an obvious dynamic allowance because any size fish is a legal fish. Upgrading an exotic is not, since it involves changing the rule as written and as posted for the last 8 months.
Whatever, it's been fun.

If I remember correctly, after further discussion Corey and I decided to leave the mulligan and wildcard as one time and not upgradeable.

Well… I’d say it would have been much, much better if you guys didn’t keep that among 2 of you.

I just re-read the rules thread – what both of you posted on the subject of upgrading exotic (mulligan was out of the question the whole time) would quite clearly indicate the opposite. I’m sure majority of us would share that impression, even A&J.

The other fact is that the “official rules” have never been changed. I got the impression that is what A&J emphasized in their post, and I’m with them on that.

Chris, Adi and Brad (the only 3 people that had an exotic sub so far) may have been under the impression you can upgrade exotic based on what the WCW powers to be commented. Not cool.

Chris may be OK – he put the big tuna under his belt.

I already said I’m cool, but that’s just me.

I am a righteous man, and this whole situation is not quite right (in my honest opinion). Not that he needs any upgrades, but this will directly limit Brad’s ability to possibly upgrade his exotic. I know for sure that Brad, just like I did, thought that the exotic could be upgraded. How could you not based on what was said in “WCW 2006 Rules and Registration” thread?

Messy...

But it's still fun...

That was never stated.

I asked for a clarification,
you (Andy) said you thought it should be allowed if Corey agreed,
he posted that he agreed,
NO ONE RAISED ANY OBJECTIONS AT THE TIME,
there was never a post to the contrary,
and NOW you are telling us you decided that the original stands.
A decision that directly benefits 2,3,& 4 at the expense of 1, 5, and an upwardly mobile 9.

Do you really want to go down this road?

I don't see how any reasonable person could have read the rules thread and walked away with anything other than the impression that the rules had been adjusted. In fact, you said you liked the idea. Corey did too. How can anyone know you changed your minds.

I just re-read the original rules, and nowhere does it explicitly state that the EXOTIC must be submitted in the month in which it is caught. Since pictures are pending, one could make the case that the exotic is inherently upgradeable.

I raise this not to get into a hypertechnical legalistic discussion, but simply to show that it can be parsed both ways. Ultimately, it comes down to the type of competition this is meant to be:
one where "winning" is all that matters and "fun" is determined not by your own achievements, but by others failures,
or one that celebrates the sport and the thrill of the big catch.

I thought I signed up for the latter, whatever the rules are interpreted to be. Hope I wasn't wrong.

I may have made a mistake. I honestly don't remember for certain. I had it in my head that the mulligan and wildcard were the same situation. Let me talk to Corey and see what his take on this is.
