It was very informative, and there are high hopes that as an organization we can do some good for the future of the fishing in California. There were speeches, raffle, and even a silent auction. Delicious taco and various drinks were available for those who wanted. Met some old friends and made some new ones too. 1-Saba Slayer is talking shop with other anglers. 2-This was at Rod and Gun club. No club house can be without a well-stocked bar. 3-Table full of donated items to be given away in form of a free raffle. 4-List of some of the members with their record catch. 5-There were about 76 attendees (not counting the officers) listening intensely to the National representative. 6-From left—Dick*, Mahigeer, Ful-rac, George. I could NOT get Saba to come over for the picture. *Newly appointed board member, Dick is the owner of the now closed Purefield Tackle store in Culver City. I won the last prize on the raffle. A Daiwa jigging rod. Two people tried to exchange their prize for mine. No way. George did better with multiple wins. Note myself…suck in the belly for pictures. Way to represent guys!
Jim, thank you again for all you do. Any chance of one of these meetings being held in an inland location in the future?

Without getting into to much detail I was very pleased with CCA's agenda
However, we need more kayakers to join these meetings.

It was a good meeting. From my experience, CCA is a solid organization that really pushes to improving fisheries and habitat. Looking forward to the future of the artificial reef projects. They are really great once they get going. Cool meeting some of you at the meeting. Tight lines to all

Thanks
Sorry... I couldn't step away from that conversation to take a photo...The CCA State board meeting is next week and Cathy (Chairperson for the Artificial Reef Committee) was asking me to make a presentation on our last artificial reef meeting that the committee had. We have some great long range goals as well as the short term stuff, like the ships currently being prepped to sink in San Diego.
I hope this organization grows and can accomplish some of the wonderful work like that being done in the other CCA states. Thanks to the kayakers that came out to represent... Some of them seemed to have a better time than others...

The main takeaway that I have from the meeting was that the initiatives are taken at the state level and directed by the chapters in that state. A Texas chapter has no right to direct the activities of a California chapter. The efforts are defined by those that take part.
I really liked the artificial reef initiative and I started thinking of ways to get more people involved - scout groups, schools, etc. One ship that was turned into a reef was made into a breast cancer monument by painting it pink and having survivors sign it. What a great way to tap into the energy and momentum of another movement that has passionate supporters. We need more kayakers at these. Sorry I did not introduce myself to others in attendance that I had not met before - Mahigeer & Geauxfish. Next time. |

Allen...the OC chapter is laging due to a lack of leadership...if you, or anyone you know is interested in being the chapter president or on the board of directors of an OC Chapter please get in touch with me, jim@sabaslayer.com or Wayne Kotow (Executive Director CCA CAL) wkotow@ccacalifornia.org.
