Bait report 10/3 Lj

Went out yesterday morning around 630. Surf was a little bigger but no problem. Bait was really tough I ended up catching two quick bonita that I had to end up chumming and tipping hooks with while tied up to the kelp. Got 3-4 greenies finally and started trolling. First fish around 930. Gave mike a single bait which he turned into a yellowtail in about ten minutes while I made a couple more baits in the kelp. Got my second fish shortly after that. Mike hooked up a bruiser on the way in the we had to fight a seal for but ended up losing.

A tip for you guys going out this week:

Have a backup plan for bait. It was not easy. If I had not caught those bones it would have been tough. Bring something with you, for at least your sabiki hooks but for chumming as well. There are greenies in the kelp but they take a while to come around the boat.

Nice YT! Even from the distance it looks to be good size! Always hard to tell with the gopro shots.

Ya it was a big one for sure! I need to buy a scale. The second one was smaller but not by a lot.

Big schools of yellowtail on the sonar underneath the ones on the hook. Mostly marked the schools off the bottom but they would come up to 30-60 feet of water to bite once they saw the greenbacks.

It's those moments why I love fishing for Yellows from a kayak. Never a dull moment from the second you hook one.

Right on Brandon! We met at the landing. I was in the red revo. I liked how that lady from Seattle asked if she could buy one of the yellows from you!

Todd, bad with names better with faces. Ya I didnt even bother telling her that was illegal. If it wasnt't illegal I would probably have considered it. I think I could have gotten $35 a pound from that broad.

Did you have those couple big seal lions annoying you as bad as we did? I think I probably pulled in a bait due to a seal over 25 times on saturday. What was nice though was how empty it was out there. Not a lot of boats of kayaks. Probably a combination of bigger surf and lobster opener.

See you on the water

Yeah I bet she would have paid that too.

Oh yeah. Might have been the worst day I've ever had dealing with the dogs. Made about a dozen or so spanish in like 20 mins around 5am and lost almost all those throughout the day to the seal lions. Had two short bites near the kelp, but couldn't get em to stick.

It was really nice and empty out on the water though.

Cheers!

Ya i had a couple short bites as well. The second fish I landed could not choke down the greenback I had on my hook (12-14")

I pulled the mac out felt no more pressure. Put the mac in freespool and let the yellowtail swim with the bait for about 10 seconds in freespool before throwing it into gear. Did the trick for that one.
