GAME CLIPS

Ok so I'm heading off to La Jolla tomorrow and even though I havent caught a single fish, I'm feeling confident about tomorrow. So question is, when I catch my first yellow, or bluefin, where do I put it?

I have a game clip, but no kill bag. So do I just put the fish on top of my kayak? Do I bleed it out first, then store it on my kayak. OR can I put it in the water and let it bleed out there? IF I do that, am I in any danger of sea lions and possibly a shark?

Still new to this kayaking thing.

In order,

Gaff

Game clip

Pictures

Cut gills

Dunk in water until water coming out barely has any blood left

Wet towel over the fish wherever it fits.

Re-soak towel with new water every 30-45 min.

If you get a fish early in the day, I don't recommend staying out looking for your double until it gets dark. Catch your fish close together, or get in and get the fish on ice. Can also gill cut, and gut while on water.

What YakDout said.

I like to bleed inside the yak, where the Mirage drive is (I see you have Hobie)...it feels safer than holding it over the side.

Maybe. I personally saw dogs steal 4 hooked YT yesterday. Why take the chance? If it's attached to a game clip, you'll go for a swim.

You could get away with bleeding a fish over the side maybe a hundred times with out getting it taken it, but why take a chance. After bleeding i stash my fish under the hatch with a damp towel on em. That clears the deck and keeps the fish out of sight for the dogs. Mike

Have there been any hammerheads hanging out lately. I wouldnt put it past a sealion to try to steal it but if a hammerhead is in the area you can bet he will if given the chance.
