Deckhand Rod: Cork Tape Protector ?

I bought my 1st 8' Deckhand rod and am going to mount my new Avet MXL reel.

Instead of using electrical tape to protect the cork, is there a better sleeve or backing available ?

I heard there is, but can't seem to find anything online. If not, I'll just use electrical tape.

~Thanks

X-wrap shrink tube. Most tackle shops will have it. If not, just regular heat shrink will work fine.

I just use regular shrink tubing. You may have to take off the rod butt to get it to slide over. Which is a PITA because they are glued on.

May be easier to put it on from the eye end. Electrical supply places will have a variety of colors

Actually no, when I got to lowest and even second to lowest guide it had less clearance then trying to slide it past the end of the rod. I did try it though. I ended up trying to heat up the butt of the rod but the glue still wouldn't break free. Cut it off, and bought a new end for a couple bucks.

I use fusion tape or self adhering tape. It fuses together when stretched double and I use it at the base of all my reels on cork
